Lee Johnson has told Sky Sports (03/10/20 at 12:20 pm) that he thinks there are ‘so many agendas going on’ regarding Leeds United’s interest in Todd Cantwell.

The Norwich City playmaker was left out of his side’s 1-0 defeat to Derby County on Saturday, as Johnson backed Daniel Farke’s decision because he thinks it’s protecting the ‘culture’ and ‘ethos’ of the club.

The Press Association have claimed that talks have been held about Cantwell possibly moving to Elland Road this summer – he started their first two Championship matches and has been left out of the previous two.

But former Bristol City manager, Johnson, shared his thoughts on Cantwell’s situation at Norwich amid the Leeds speculation.

“You have got to understand that there are so many agendas going on,” Johnson told Sky Sports. “You have got the club. Their mentality would be to maximise the sale.

“You have got the buying club, which is, of course, to buy the player as cheap as possible, and the player who wants to play as high as he can and as long as he can. Then you have the agent that wants to put food on the table for his kids. That’s like an eclectic mix of an interesting dynamic.

“It comes down to whether that player can perform in training and whether his body language is good. You have to protect the ethos and culture you have set at the football club and I think he [Farke] has done that [by leaving hi out].”

Biggest Premier League transfer deadline day deals in 2019

  1. Alex Iwobi

    Arsenal to Everton: £34 million

  2. Ismaila Sarr

    Rennes to Watford: £30 million

  3. Ryan Sessegnon

    Fulham to Tottenham: £25 million

  4. Kieran Tierney

    Celtic to Arsenal: £25 million

  5. Dennis Praet

    Sampdoria to Leicester: £18 million

Even though Norwich crashed back down to the second-tier last season, Cantwell was one of their star performers in the Premier League.

The 22-year-old is very comfortable on the ball, and even if he’s in a tight situation, he likes taking the ball and making it talk for his team.

That would be welcomed at Elland Road and Leeds have until October 16 to potentially conclude a deal for the playmaker because the domestic window slams shut later on this month.
