Speaking to The Athletic, Amanda Staveley has been full of praise for Kieran Trippier.

The right-back was PIFs first big-name signing after their historic takeover, and while the signing of Trippier was just the beginning for Newcastle, Staveley believes he can be a long-term player for the Magpies.

Indeed, the co-owner states that she’s been so impressed by Trippier and she believes he can be a key component in this team in five years’ time.

In fact, she’s even gone as far as to tell Trippier he can be Newcastle’s new Alan Shearer.

What’s been said?

Staveley gave her view on Trippier.

“He’s so professional, so fit. I’ve been so impressed. To be honest, Kieran isn’t someone we’ll ever sell. I’ve said to him, ‘You’re with us and that’s it. You can be our Alan Shearer. You’ll be a standard-bearer for Newcastle for many years to come’. If he can play, he will stay and I believe you might find he’ll still be playing in five years’ time because he’s capable of it. He’s got something extraordinary,” Staveley said.

Pressure

Talk about putting pressure on a player.

Telling a new signing at Newcastle that they can be the new Alan Shearer is an absolutely massive claim, and it’s going to be almost impossible for Trippier to live up to that billing.

Now, that’s not a knock on the right-back. After all, he’s already shown his brilliance, but Shearer is the biggest legend in the club’s history.

Trippier could go on to become an icon at Newcastle, but he’d have to do something unheard of if he’s to surpass or match Shearer at this point in his career.
