Michael Dawson has claimed that Eric Dier is ‘so important’ to Tottenham Hotspur but is someone who ‘doesn’t get credit’.
Whilst Spurs have been running through their managers of late, someone like Dier has probably been one of the club’s most consistent performers from when Jose Mourinho arrived up until now.
Purchased for only £4 million in 2014 from Sporting Lisbon (BBC Sport), the hard-hitting defender has been one of the club’s best purchases.
Perhaps the most important cog of Tottenham’s defensive wheel, Dier is also starting to build a strong partnership with someone like Cristian Romero at the back.
Nonetheless, when talking about the quality and character Dier brings to the table, Dawson praised the English defender, as he told Sky Sports Football (02/04/22 at 1:10 pm).
“Speaking about Eric Dier, I think him coming back, he is so important to them,” said Dawson.
“I don’t think he gets the credit he deserves. Out of the football club and the fans.
“I think it’s important. He has got big shoulders. His character. He plays in the middle of the three and dictates it. Starts a lot of the attacks.
“And he will always take the ball because he is that type of character. That’s what I like about Eric, he gives Romero at the back to get out and be aggressive.”

It’s going to be interesting what Spurs do during the summer transfer window and if they add a left-sided centre-back to their squad.
Many would feel that both Dier and Romero are cemented in that backline, it’s just a case of someone joining them.
Ben Davies has played that role under Conte, but a bonafide player, both for depth and quality is needed.
The key question is will those sitting at the top of Tottenham trees provide Conte and co with the ammunition needed to move forward?
