Neil Cutler has confirmed on Twitter that he has signed a ‘new contract’ with Aston Villa.

The 44-year-old is Villa’s goalkeeping coach and he has played a huge part in the quality of performances those in between the sticks have produced since the club returned to the promised land.

Tom Heaton, before his injury last season, was outstanding, before Villa found the right formula with Pepe Reina after their first two choice keepers were out for the season.

And now, the man of the moment, Villa’s Player of the Season, Emi Martinez, is thriving in Claret & Blue colours.

Whilst those in the limelight get the deserved praise, and why shouldn’t they, there are still some unsung hero’s behind the scenes.

And Villa’s giant presence in the dugout is one of them, as he issued this message on his Twitter page about a new deal.

Villa kept 15 clean sheets this season, and whilst Martinez missed out on Brad Friedel’s record, it was still an outstanding campaign from the backline.

Compared to last season, when Villa had one of the worst defences, not just in the Premier League but in Europe then it has been some transformation from those in B6.

Huge progression has been made by Villa since Dean Smith was handed the keys to his boyhood club, but this is just the start of the road to the Midlands giants returning back to their European days.
