Gary Neville has lavished praise on Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are in action away to Brentford in London tonight.

A fortuitious goal from Ben Mee put Liverpool a goal down on 19 minutes, following a corner.

But the hosts could – and should – have opened the scoring moments before that.

Bryan Mbeumo galloped through on goal following a swift counter attack from Brentford.

Despite being in a glorious position to fire the Bees ahead, Liverpool’s keeper – a £66 million signing in 2018 [BBC Sport] – kept him out, conceding the fatal corner in the process.

But it was a brilliant stop from the Brazil international and here’s what Neville said. He said live on Sky Sports [18 mins]: “He’s so good at this [one-on-one situations] Alisson. He stands up, stands strong.”

The former Roma goalkeeper made a number of other massive saves later in the half, including when Thomas Frank’s side thought they had doubled their lead, only for an offside flag to deflate the euphoric home support.

Without Alisson, Liverpool would be in big trouble this season.

He is arguably the best and most consistent player in this Reds side since August, which goes to show the value of a world-class goalkeeper.

Problem is, the four players ahead of him – Trent Alexander-Arnold, Ibrahima Konate, Virgil van Dijk and Kostas Tsimikas – are looking vulnerable.

Alisson almost did brilliantly to keep out the hosts’ second, clawing Wissa’s header away, but it was confirmed to have crossed the line and if things continue like this, the 29-year-old will be a busy man in the second half.
