Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola isn’t known for mind games and therefore his comments about Tottenham Hotspur’s interim manager Ryan Mason should be taken with a pinch of salt.
Guardiola’s side come up against Tottenham at Wembley in a League Cup final on Sunday.
Spurs will be managed by Mason on the day following Jose Mourinho’s sacking by Daniel Levy a little earlier this week.
The 29-year-old became the youngest man in Premier League history after taking charge of the North Londoners’ win over Southampton in midweek.
He is such a novice – managerially speaking – that the Manchester City coach doesn’t even know his name, it seems.
In a pre-match press conference today, Pep referred to Mason as ‘Brian’ and here’s how some Tottenham fans reacted to the slip on Twitter:
The odds are stacked against Tottenham – who are 24 points behind City in the Premier League table – but perhaps this faux pas from Guardiola may motivate the Lilywhites.
Of course, the Sky Blues boss wasn’t intentionally being disrespectful, but it is a bit of a stinker, even if the names sound similar, and Mason’s players might be that it more inspired after hearing Pep’s error.
