Alan Smith has praised Takehiro Tomiyasu for ‘doing so well’ in foreign surroundings in the English Premier League and at Arsenal, as he told MNF on Sky Sports PL.
The Japan international was signed by Arsenal in the summer from the Italian side Bologna.
The quick-thinking defender arrived on transfer deadline day, as Arsenal’s previous right-back, Hector Bellerin, left for the exit door and to the relief of many fans.
For a number of years, Arsenal have had many issues on that right-hand side of their defence.
But ever since Tomiyasu has walked through their doors, he has thrived and ex-Highury striker Smith is liking what he’s seeing from the player.
“He’s done so well to come into a league and a standard that he’s not used to,” said Smith.
“Coming into a foreign country, he has done ever so well and he has been so consistent.”

It has been a mixed bag from Arsenal this season, as many are left unconvinced at what Mikel Arteta is producing.
On one hand, he is praised for having the Gunners sitting just outside of the Champions League places.
But some of the defeats they have suffered are pretty worrying, no less than their 2-1 defeat at Everton last time out.
For the second game running, Arteta’s side took the lead but still found themselves walking away empty-handed.
