Aston Villa fans have reacted on Twitter to Leeds United’s Patrick Bamford earning an England call.
The Leeds striker was handed his maiden call by Gareth Southgate on Thursday after he completely missed the cut for Euro 2020 in the summer.
But Villa fans are unhappy and stunned at this news because they feel Danny Ings should have been selected ahead of the £10 million player (BBC Sport).
Bamford is yet to get off the mark this season, whilst Ings has netted two from two following his summer from Southampton move to Villa Park.
One of those included a quite stunning overhead kick during his side’s 2-0 win against Newcastle from the weekend.
But it seems as though Bamford’s performances last season, where he was the second-highest goalscoring Englishman, have played a big part in this call.
Villa still have representation at St Geoge’s Park with Tyrone Mings getting another call.
It needs to be remembered that Ollie Watkins is out injured, so that has hampered his chances this time around.
But given that Watkins was picked ahead of Bamford last season, it would have been interesting to see what Gareth Southgate would have done if he was fit.
Either way, whilst Villa fans wanted a call for Ings, it seems as though the actual battle is between Watkins and Bamford.
It’s obvious that Kane is the one leading the line, with Calvert-Lewin behind the Spurs man then followed by either the above Villa and Leeds duo.
There is plenty of games going forward for players like Ings to earn that recall and someone like Bamford to maintain his place.
