According to Homme Du Match, Newcastle United are in talks with Nice’s Danish striker Kasper Dolberg.

Dolberg is a player everyone should be familiar with by now. After all, he was one of the stars of Euro 2020, but if you’ve forgotten his exploits at the Euros, here’s a quick reminder.

Dolberg started the tournament as a bench player, but after a tough start to the tournament, Denmark opted to give him a chance, and he made sure to take it, scoring three goals in four games to guide his country to the semi-finals.

The attacker has since scored three league goals in just 365 minutes for Nice and now it seems as though a move to England could be on the cards.

One man who is seemingly a fan of Dolberg is former Newcastle winger Andros Townsend who has described him as ‘so clinical’ in the past.

What’s been said?

Townsend spoke about Dolberg on the ITV Football Podcast during Euro 2020.

“Of course, nobody when Christian Eriksen went down, nobody thought they would even continue in the competition, we thought the competition was over. Thankfully Christian recovered and gave them the all-clear to continue, and since then you saw a side that played for their mate, tried to use the motion, they’ve been surfing the emotional wave. They were brilliant, talk about Dolberg who is so clinical, Damsgaard who is such a good young talent,” Townsend said.

Could be a gem

Dolberg isn’t the biggest name in world football, but he could be brilliant for Newcastle.

Newcastle may need to build gradually if they’re going to become a superpower, and Dolberg is exactly the type of player they need. He can score goals, he’s a hard worker and he’s a clear upgrade on what they already have.

Townsend rates him, and soon, the rest of the Premier League may have to deal with this talented 24-year-old.
