Jermain Defoe hailed James Maddison for producing the goods once again following Tottenham Hotspur’s 2-1 win over Liverpool.

The former Premier League striker labelled James Maddison as ‘so clever’ for the role he played in Tottenham opening the scoring through Son Heung-min.

It was the England star’s defence-splitting pass that opened the door for Richarlison to play the ball across Liverpool’s penalty area for Son Heung-min to make yet another one of his darting runs across the box to poke home.

That moment impressed Defoe who stated it was ‘that man again’ making the ball talk for Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham, as he told Premier League Productions (30/09/23 at 6:30 pm).

James Maddison may not have registered a goal or an assist against nine-man Liverpool, but he was producing more eye-catching passes during the game.

Ever since the 26-year-old has donned the Spurs colours, he has performed and acted like he has been at the club for years, nevermind arriving just this summer.

James Maddison shines again for Tottenham

“It’s that man again,” said Defoe. “In these sort of situations, he is so clever. He just waits. Credit to Richarlison, the movement is good.

“Even the pass with the outside of his foot to Sonny there and an easy finish. Maddison just waits for Richarlison’s movement, just the weight of pass and then Sonny finishes it.”

Another strong month from James Maddison

After winning August’s Player of the Month, some Spurs fans were hoping that award wasn’t going to be a jinx on their team.

Well, the England star’s performance in September proved otherwise because he has just continued his work from his previous month.

From Maddison’s seven Premier League games, he has scored two goals and supplied four assists.

And you can bet your bottom dollar, that by the time the final ball is kicked this season, there is every chance he hits double figures in both goals and assists.
