Mason Mount has raved about former Arsenal and Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud and how he has ‘unbelievable’ technique to his game, as he told the Premier League.
The England midfielder added that he has ‘never’ seen anyone hit the ball as clean as the current AC Milan star, who played for both Chelsea and Arsenal during his days in the Premier League.
Now donning the colours of AC Milan, who won the Serie A title last season, Giroud spent six years at the Emirates Stadium before moving across London and joining Chelsea in 2018.
It didn’t help matters that he was winning the Europa League in the colours of the Blues 12 months later, and that against Arsenal.
But when Mount was asked to pick his FIFA Ultimate Team, he was sure to drop Giroud’s name into the hat.
“You know who I am going to go for, Ollie Giroud, my boy,” said Mount. “I have never seen someone hit the ball so cleanly. The technique is unbelievable. Volleying, half-volleys and it’s so clean.
“I was lucky enough to be with him for a year and a half, or maybe a bit longer, so just a finisher. If I know I have got something like that, then I don’t need to look. I am just putting it in the box. The connection that we would have and hoping that he would be on the end of it. Be in the right position for when I put the ball in, so you don’t have to think that much.”
GIROUD AT THE WORLD CUP
The last time Giroud was on football’s biggest stage, he helped France secure the World Cup in Russia and now he is back to try and do it all again.
This time in the searing heat of Qatar over in the Middle East, the current world champions have a difficult task on their hands because they have a number of seriously strong teams gunning for them.
The South American duo – Brazil and Argentina – look particularly strong, whilst you can never rule out the Germans in a major tournament and there is always an underdog like Switzerland and Senegal around the corner.
