Andros Townsend has told talkSPORT that Liverpool youngster Curtis Jones is ‘so calm’ and ‘at ease in his environment.

The Crystal Palace winger spoke in glowing terms about Liverpool’s academy product, who has played a more regular role for Jurgen Klopp this season.

Injuries have helped Jones earn more minutes in the middle of the park, and rather than see it as a gift, he has taken on the responsibility and shone.

This included on Tuesday night when Liverpool recorded a valuable 2-0 win against RB Leipzig in the Champions League, as Townsend has been left seriously impressed with the attack-minded midfielder.

“He seems so calm and so at ease in his environment,” said Townsend. “When you see youngsters coming into the team, at times, they could be frantic or nervous.

“You can see that in their performance when they are not comfortable. But he’s the exact opposite.

“He’s just so cool, calm and collected. It’s so good to see a youngster coming into such a big side such as Liverpool and just performing without any problems, at all.”

It could be argued that Jones actually deserves more minutes on the pitch.

Even when he is starting, like he did during Liverpool’s defeat to Manchester City, he was one of the bright sparks for the Reds but was subbed off after the hour mark.

Either way, he will be hoping to be in Liverpool’s starting XI for the weekend showdown with Everton because the local boy will want to make his mark.
