Glenn Hoddle says that he believes that Gareth Bale is going to start for Tottenham Hotspur against Chelsea.

Speaking on his self-titled podcast, Hoddle explained how he thinks Mourinho may be keeping Bale fresh for Tottenham’s game on Sunday.

Bale did not feature against Manchester City at all, but the Welshman is starting to show signs that his fitness and match sharpness are coming back.

And Hoddle believes that the Spurs summer signing could be unleashed at the weekend.

“I’ve got a sneaky feeling that Gareth Bale might have a big say in that game. I think Mourinho might be holding him up his sleeve,” Hoddle said.

“That’s the sort of game where you could just see him. He played 90 minutes for Wales, and you could see him turning it on in a game like that.

“It wouldn’t surprise me if Mourinho hasn’t got him earmarked for Chelsea.”

Bale was rested by Mourinho against City as Tottenham needed more defensive solidity.

Mourinho may feel slightly more confident to attack Chelsea though, which could lead to Bale being picked.

If the 31-year-old does return to Tottenham’s line-up he is likely to take the place of Steven Bergwijn in attack.
