Paul Merson has given his verdict on Ivan Toney amid speculation linking the striker with Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal and Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea.
The former Arsenal star and Sky Sports pundit thinks that Chelsea could try to sign Toney from Brentford in the summer of 2024.
So, what has Paul Merson said about Ivan Toney? Let’s take a look.
Paul Merson thinks Chelsea could bid for Arsenal target Ivan Toney
Well, Paul Merson thinks that Chelsea could try to sign Ivan Toney from London and Premier League rivals Brentford in the summer transfer window.
The former Arsenal striker thinks that much will depend on how the rest of the season pans out.
The Sky Sports pundit believes that Chelsea could try to sign the 27-year-old striker and admitted that he was surprised that Arsenal did not make a bid for the England international in the January transfer window.

Both Arsenal and Chelsea have been linked with Toney. On December 30, The Independent reported that the Gunners want to sign the striker, with manager Mikel Arteta personally keen on getting a deal done.
The London Evening Standard reported this week that Arsenal and Chelsea are keen on securing the services of the 27-year-old striker in the summer transfer window. Stan Collymore has urged him to move to Liverpool.
Merson told SportsKeeda: “Thomas Frank said in an interview that Brentford received no offers for Ivan Toney in January and also confirmed that the Englishman will leave the club at the end of the season.
“I think Chelsea could be in the running to snap him up, but they’ve also been linked with Victor Osimhen, so you never know. I thought Arsenal would make a move for him in January, but that didn’t happen.
“It all depends on how the rest of the current campaign goes, but as things stand, I have no clue where he lands up.”
My View: Arsenal more appealing than Chelsea for Ivan Toney
In my opinion, Arsenal will be more appealing than Chelsea for Brentford striker Ivan Toney.
Arsenal could win the Premier League title this season, while Chelsea are unlikely to end up getting in the top four.
The Gunners are going places and have a very good and competitive team. Toney will have a better chance of winning the Premier League and playing in the UEFA Champions League if he moves to Arsenal.
