Scottie Scheffler has added another major title to his collection, claiming The Open Championship at Royal Portrush on Sunday.
Already considered the best active player in the world, Scheffler’s recent form has even drawn comparisons with Tiger Woods.
He didn’t just edge out the field – he dominated from start to finish, leaving little doubt as to who was in control.
This win marks his second major of the season and fourth overall, solidifying his place among golf’s elite just six years into his PGA Tour career. The achievement has sparked comparisons not only between the 29-year-old and Tiger Woods, but with other legends as well.
Smylie Kaufman likens Scottie Scheffler’s swing to Greg Norman’s style

Kaufman noted that while Scheffler has been incredibly successful, his golf swing doesn’t have the same visual appeal as those of Tiger Woods or Adam Scott.
Instead, he sees more of a resemblance to former world No. 1 Greg Norman, pointing out that it’s not the kind of technique you’d expect to see taught widely in the future.
“I just think about how, when I was watching golf as a kid, all the teachers would be trying to model kids’ and amateurs’ golf swings off Tiger Woods and Adam Scott,” Kaufman explained. “They would pull up Adam Scott side by side and put your video right next to it and try to compare and contrast.
“I don’t know if that is the case with Scottie Scheffler because he does it so differently. Think about his golf swing. His pelvis is moving towards the target; he’s right eye dominant, so it’s very different for a lot of people; his head is back; his pelvis is forward, and he’s got so much great rotation through the ball.

“But I don’t think many other people could do it because of the way he contorts the ground, the way he pushes forward with his left foot to not snap back out of it, and has that right foot slide.
“What he does with the ground is phenomenal. It’s the closest thing we’ve seen to what Greg Norman used to do with the ground. That’s the best comparison. If you just took from waist high down, Scottie Scheffler and Greg Norman, it’s very similar in how they push the ground.
“They’re pushing that left foot forward, trying to get all their weight into the ball at his feet versus in the heel and snapping back like a Patrick Reed or a Justin Thomas, where they jump out of the way. He’s doing it the most consistent way to be able to get the ball on the ball every single time.”
How Scottie Scheffler and Greg Norman stack up
Scheffler’s rise has been sharp. His rapid climb up the rankings is clear to see, even in a relatively short time at the top level.
Of course, Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy have done far more in the sport, and all four Grand Slam winners sit above him too. But when you look at players like Norman, there’s now a real conversation to be had about who’s had the bigger impact.
| Scottie Scheffler | Greg Norman | |
| Major wins | 4 | 2 |
| PGA Tour wins | 17 | 20 |
| European Tour wins | 5 | 14 |
| Weeks at No. 1 | 149 | 331 |
| Presidents Cup appearances | 2 | 3 |
Scheffler already holds twice as many major titles as Norman and is only three wins behind him on the PGA Tour.
Norman still has nine more victories on the European Tour (now known as the DP World Tour) and spent more than double the number of weeks ranked world number one. So for now, he probably still holds an edge over Scheffler – but maybe not for much longer.
