Dean Smith has told the Birmingham Mail that Aston Villa’s players were all clapping Jacob Ramsey last night.

Ramsey was introduced to Villa’s team late on against Fulham yesterday, as the youngster was handed his Premier League debut.

Ramsey helped Villa see out a 3-0 win over Fulham, as they continued their excellent start to the season.

And Smith suggests that Ramsey’s Villa teammates were delighted for the prospect at full-time.

“It was really pleasing to get JJ (Jacob Ramsey) on as well,” Smith said. “He earned his chance with his performance at Bristol City to make his Premier League debut and he got a round of applause by the players.”

Ramsey’s Premier League debut as an indication of just how highly regarded he is at Villa.

The 19-year-old went out on loan to Doncaster Rovers last term and impressed in League One.

He now seems to be considered as part of Villa’s senior squad, and it could well be that yesterday’s display was the first of many appearances he is handed over the course of the campaign.

Villa’s victory at Craven Cottage means that they have collected maximum points from their first two games of the season.
