Dean Smith has shared that John Terry is ‘fully committed’ to Aston Villa after speaking to him about his future, as he told Sky Sports.
This comes after the Mirror claimed that Villa’s assistant has thrown his name into the hat to become the next Bristol City boss following Lee Johnson’s sacking.
Just like his former England teammates, Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard and Sol Campbell, it is obvious that Terry is keen to step into the limelight.
It remains to be seen whether his first gig will be at Ashton Gate, but Smith sent this clear message when asked about his future.
“I have spoken to John and he is fully committed to our cause here at Aston Villa,” Smith told Sky Sports. “”I don’t think we can look at the summer, we’ve got to look at now.”
Terry was part of the Villa team that lost in the play-off final to Fulham in May 2018.
The former Chelsea man then retired and months into the new season, Steve Bruce was sacked and replaced by Smith, who agreed to add the former centre-back to his coaching staff.
Villa’s defensive problems were evident last season and they have become worse this season.
Many have questioned what role Terry plays in helping Villa’s defence, who managed to secure a clean sheet and much-needed win against Crystal Palace on Sunday afternoon.
