Paul Pogba re-joined Manchester United for a world-record transfer fee on Tuesday, four years after joining Juventus.
Paul Pogba’s arrival at Manchester United has sparked a debate in every aspect of his megabucks move.
Developing into one of the most exciting midfield players in the world, the Frenchman always possessed an eye for goal during his time in Turin.
However Jamie Carragher believes that may not be a good thing in the Premier League, writing in the Daily Mail that he will leave his teammates exposed this season due to that attack minded nature.
“Everything about this four-time Serie A winner suggests he will have no trouble settling into English football: he’s powerful, athletic and I like his off-the-cuff tricks and dribbles. You don’t see many central midfielders doing that,” Carragher wrote in his Daily Mail column.
“There will be times when his attacking instincts will leave United exposed in midfield, as happened with Toure and Manchester City, and it will be interesting to see how Jose Mourinho deals with that.
“Saying that, we should be pleased such a talented player is in England. If he can follow the example of Gerrard, Lampard and Toure, their chances of getting back to the top will be so much stronger. They are the measure.”
Paul Pogba scored eight goals in 35 Serie A appearances for the Old Lady last year, which is a total that no United midfielders were able to match.
The 23-year-old also recorded the most assists in Italy’s top tier with a superb 54 chances created.
However, playing against much more punishing teams, even if it does fall in favour of United sometimes, there is no doubt Pogba will now have to become more wary of wandering forward.
