Aston Villa take on Colchester United in the first round of the EFL Cup.
Aston Villa will be looking to pick up their first win of the season against League Two side Colchester United. The Villians started their campaign last week (in the Championship) with a draw against Hull City.
Manager of Aston Villa Steve Bruce
The Championship side are under pressure to secure promotion this season having finished thirteenth in the second tier of English football last season. Given their history and stature, another season in the championship would be unthinkable for Villa fans.
So cup competitions will, most probably, take a backseat as Steve Bruce looks to concentrate his resources in the League. Especially with the game against Cardiff City in the Championship on Saturday, the manager has made changes to the lineup which started against Hull on the opening weekend.
The former Sunderland manager is without the services of Jack Grealish (kidney), Jonathan Kodjia (ankle) and Mile Jedinak (groin) due to injury.
Villa will undoubtedly be expected to get the job done against lower league opposition, but as seen in the past, anything can happen in cup competitions.
