Aston Villa chairman Tony Xia confirmed that links to Robert Snodgrass are just rumours.
Aston Villa chairman Tony Xia took to Twitter to deny rumours linking West Ham winger Robert Snodgrass to Aston Villa. The 29-year-old was linked with a move to the Championship side by the Daily Mail on Wednesday.
A fan took to Twitter to ask if the rumours were indeed true.
To which, as Xia often does, replied promptly.
Aston Villa, who drew with Hull City on the opening weekend of the Championship, are looking to get back to the Premier League after finishing a disappointing thirteenth in the Championship last season.
Robert Snodgrass of West Ham United in action during a Pre Season Friendly
Steve Bruce has overseen a number of new signings this season, with Glenn Whelan, Ahmed Elmohamady, Christopher Samba and John Terry joining the Villains. He has also managed to secure year long loan deals for the duo Sam Johnstone (from Manchester United) and Josh Onomah (from Josh Onomah).
The management, as reiterated by Steve Bruce, are looking to tread carefully with the Financial Fair Play and will look to offload the likes of Tommy Elphick, Gary Gardner and Ross McCormack before signing new players.
The situation of Robert Snodgrass is a curious one, especially given West Ham signed him just six months back from Hull City. The Scotland international hasn’t had the best of pre-season, and according to the Daily Mail, the Hammers are willing to listen to offers for him.
