Speaking on the Seaman Says Podcast, Graeme Le Saux has made a claim about who will finish higher between Arsenal and Chelsea.

Of course, when David Seaman is interviewing Graeme Le Saux, only one rivalry is going to be on the agenda – Arsenal vs Chelsea, and Le Saux has given his view on who will finish where this term.

Right now, Arsenal are flying high at the top of the Premier League, while Chelsea are lagging behind a little bit in fifth as they continue to adapt under Graham Potter.

However, despite Arsenal’s bright start, Le Saux has tipped his former club to finish ahead of the Gunners due to their squad depth.

Chelsea to finish above Arsenal

According to Le Saux, Chelsea will finish higher than their London rivals.

“The big question Graeme is who will finish higher, Arsenal or Chelsea?” Le Saux was asked.

“Well, on current form it’s an easy answer isn’t it; Arsenal. But the attrition of a season and the need for a team to adapt throughout a season, I think that just gives Chelsea a slight advantage because they have got a deeper squad and more experience in that squad. When you have difficult moments it’s about how you manage your way through those games,” Le Saux said.

January is key

Le Saux is right. At this very moment, Chelsea do have a deeper squad than Arsenal, and that is a fair reason to think they’ll finish higher than the Gunners.

However, there is a little thing called the January transfer window.

In reality, Arsenal are only two or three additions away from having one of the most fully fleshed-out squads in the Premier League, and if they get their winter moves right, they’ll be ready to kick-on and continue their title challenge in 2023.

Chelsea and Arsenal will certainly be close to one another by the end of the season, but it remains to be seen who finishes higher.
