Speaking on his podcast, Glenn Hoddle has conceded that Arsenal are ahead of Spurs in one key area right now.
The ex-Tottenham man of course has his biases towards Spurs, but even he had to admit that Arsenal have a more promising batch of young players coming through right now.
Hoddle said that both teams have a number of problems right now, but Arsenal do have a slight edge due to their talented young crop coming through.
“Both squads need work, and both squads have had money spent on them as well. It’s not like there’s been no money spent, but unfortunately, it looks like there needs to be a rebuild,” Hoddle said.
“The slight advantage that Arsenal have at the moment is that they’ve got some very good youngster of about 20, 21. There was a batch that came through at Spurs with Kane, Dele Alli, Rose and Walker at the time. There was a young crop at Spurs that Pochettino had playing like that.
“Now, I feel that Arsenal’s youngsters are ahead of Spurs youngsters. There’s a batch of Spurs youngsters we’ve not seen yet. I’m hearing there’s some good ones there, but every club says that. They’ve not really had the experience like the Arsenal lads have, so that’s where Arsenal have a slight advantage.”
As much as Hoddle loves Spurs, it has to be said that Arsenal are ahead of Tottenham in this area right now.
Now, that isn’t to say that Spurs don’t have their own talented youngsters. The likes of Oliver Skipp and Dane Scarlett look to be very promising. However, Arsenal have two genuine Young Player of the Year contenders in Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe, and that’s before we even mention Gabriel Martinelli.
There isn’t much for Arsenal to be cheery about at the moment, but they can be happy with the young talent they have coming through.
