Slaven Bilic has a new hip, Andy Carroll looks like a WWE wrestler and Pablo Zabaleta looks sharp as West Ham United got back to business.

Like many other Premier League sides the Hammers have been back in pre-season training this week.

Pablo Zabaleta has been the only new addition on show after his arrival on a free transfer from Manchester City.

Slaven Bilic is desperate to make four “game-changer” signings and is prioritising two strikers.

The likes of Kelechi Iheanacho, Olivier Giroud, Michy Batshuayi and Cedric Bakambu have all been linked but as yet the East Londoners have failed to make much headway, much to the chagrin of supporters.

There was some excitement around the club this week, though, as they gathered at West Ham’s Rush Green training ground.

Some players who have been on international duty were not involved but the main talking points for fans have been some new additions to add to Zabaleta.

In pictures and video posted online by West Ham’s media team, Bilic can be seen moving around freely as he recovers from a hip operation.

The Croatian has been suffering in pain since joining the Hammers back in 2015 and had the operation as soon as the season ended with that 2-1 win away to Burnley back in May.

He was all smiles as he chatted with new arrival Zabaleta, who is already proving a popular figure at the club.

Adored by players, staff and fans alike during his nine-year spell in Manchester, the Argentine can be seen being warmly welcomed by most of the Hammers squad.

And he proved he still has his class despite turning 33 next season with video showing his excellent first touch in a training ground drill.

The highlight – or should that be highlights – of the resumption of pre-season at West Ham, though, was undoubtedly striker Andy Carroll’s new tips.

The big Geordie seems to have got a touch carried away over the summer and has returned looking more like a WWE wrestler than a footballer with blonde highlights added to his long, flowing locks.

Perhaps he has his eyes on teaming up WWE superstar Triple H, a self-confessed Hammers fan.
