West Ham United manager Slaven Bilic has told Sky Sports he would love for the club to complete a deal for Simone Zaza.

The Hammers have been on the hunt for a striker all summer as they look to build on their impressive campaign last year.

They thought they had solved their issues with a £20 million move for Andre Ayew but he picked up a four-month injury in the loss to Chelsea that leaves them short once again.

This week saw them make a move for Juventus striker Simone Zaza, with Gazzetta dello Sport reporting the player had agreed terms on a £21 million move.

And speaking after the loss to Astra Giurgiu on Thursday, Bilic has said he would love it if the deal could be concluded.

“I don’t know the details, but we were in talks and it was quite close. I would love it to happen,” he told Sky Sports.

It will be interesting to see whether Zaza is the only striker to make the move to the London Stadium before the end of the transfer window.

With Andy Carroll picking up an injury and Diafra Sakho also on the treatment table, the Hammers are seriously short of quality in that position at this moment in time.

With Jonathan Calleri struggling against Astra too, perhaps Bilic will be convinced they need more than Zaza.
