Slaven Bilic has told Essex Live that West Ham United defender Winston Reid should be back in time to face Tottenham Hotspur after the international break.
Reid has been out since injuring his groin in the last minutes of West Ham’s match against Everton two weekends’ ago.
The New Zealand international was forced to sit out of the Hammers’ contest with Stoke City last Saturday.
But Bilic is hopeful that Reid will be back soon, with a London derby against Tottenham on the horizon.
“On paper, he should be back in training after a couple of weeks from the injury, but then I’ve seen many times, for some reason, grade one become grade two in no time and by doing nothing,” the Croatian boss said.
“I can only say what the medical team tell me which is grade one. They didn’t say 100 per cent back for Spurs but they said there’s a good chance for him to be back.”
In Reid’s absence, West Ham were only able to pick up a draw with Stoke in their latest outing.
The Hammers are now looking nervously over their shoulders, as they have slipped back down to 17th place in the Premier League table.
West Ham are just one point above the relegation zone, after what has been a disappointing start.
Their next opponents, Tottenham, meanwhile, are still unbeaten after 11 Premier League matches this term.
