Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has come under some harsh criticism this season. Pundits and fans alike have slammed Wenger for many of the Gunners’ disappointing results and performances so far this campaign.

The Gunners are one of the biggest clubs on the planet and have a fanbase spread across the world, but on the pitch the team are not doing as well as expected.

The North London outfit are fourth in the Premier League table at the moment with 50 points from 25 matches, as many as 13 points behind leaders Chelsea. The title is gone for Wenger’s side.

Arsenal are also on their way out of the Champions League. The Gunners went down 5-1 to Bayern Munich away from home at the Allianz Arena in the first leg of the last-16 tie earlier this month. It is hard to see the Premier League side overturn the deficit in the second leg at the Emirates Stadium.

The only realistic chance of winning a major trophy this season for Arsenal is the FA Cup, but that is unlikely to satisfy the fans. West Ham United manager Slaven Bilic, though, has defended Wenger from the criticisms.

“We can all get the sack, of course, and you can take fair criticism but some of it crosses the line and it can develop into a witch-hunt,” Bilic wrote in The London Evening Standard.

“Nobody deserves that, least of all Arsene. You can’t say he made Arsenal because that club have a great history and were at or near the top for many years before he went there.

“The fact is though, that in this modern era, he took the club to another level — and kept them there.”
