West Ham suffered a 2-3 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League at the London Stadium on Saturday.

It was a bad afternoon for West Ham boss Slaven Bilic, who is anxiously waiting for the scan result of his star player Michail Antonio.

The 27-year-old was drafted into the starting lineup against Spurs, but he suffered a groin injury midway through the first period, and had to be substituted.

Bilic is adamant that there was no risk involved in starting Antonio, saying that the club had been very cautious with him.

He said that the club’s medical team were very careful with Antonio, and he was given the clearance to play after he passed the fitness test.

Antonio will undergo a scan on his groin injury, and the West Ham manager will be hoping that it is not a major setback.

West Ham fought back brilliantly to score two goals after going 3-0 down, but despite their brave effort, they find themselves in the relegation mix.

The London derby defeat is another step back for Bilic and his team, and it will serve as a huge blow for them if they lose Antonio for another lengthy spell on the side lines.

“No we didn’t [see any risk in starting Antonio],” Bilic said, as quoted by Football London.

“We were very cautious and he passed the test, not today but yesterday. It was all clear, so we are not taking those kinds of risks here knowing that it can harm in in the long term, it just happened.

“It’s not the same spot as before. It’s a groin, he fell a bit. I just spoke to him, he didn’t pull it big time but we have to scan it first to see how big it is, how bad it is.”
