West Ham United only managed to beat Accrington Stanley 1-0 in EFL Cup action yesterday.

Slaven Bilic has told West Ham United’s official website that he felt the performance of Edimilson Fernandes was particularly pleasing in the EFL Cup yesterday.
Fernandes was handed his debut for West Ham in their match against Accrington Stanley last night.

Although many Hammers’ players struggled to impress, Fernandes did earn praise from his manager.
“Of all the players on the pitch, I am most pleased with Fernandes,” Bilic said. “He is also a good player. He is young but has the quality and confidence to play forward. He came out with a big plus.”
Fernandes was brought to West Ham during the summer transfer window, but he has had to bide his time while waiting for a first-team opportunity.

The 20-year-old has been kept in reserve over the first few weeks of the season, but his performances did his chances of being selected no harm.
Despite the youngster’s impressive display, West Ham still could only sneak over the line against League Two side Accrington.
The Hammers were reliant on a last minute free-kick from Dimitri Payet to progress, with Bilic’s side now due to face Chelsea in the next round.
