Diafra Sakho has not played a match for West Ham United so far this season.

Slaven Bilic has told West Ham United’s official website that Diafra Sakho’s return from injury is a big boost for his side.

Sakho has missed the entirety of the season so far, after suffering with a back injury.

However, the Senegalese international is fit again now – after returning to training.

And Bilic said: “We are delighted that he is back. We have been missing him since the start of pre-season so it has been a very long period, but he is back now.

“He started doing rehabilitation treatment, then he did individual training on the pitch and then he spent a week with the U23s.

“He has been training with us since the Stoke game and looks good. He might need a few games to find his top form but some hit it straight away like Aaron Cresswell did when he came back.

“We rate Diafra very highly because he gives you something different. He runs deep and is really good at running behind the defences and opens the spaces for other players to run into that zone. It is a big boost for us to have him back.”

Sakho is now expected to be in West Ham’s squad which travels to White Hart Lane to face Tottenham Hotspur at the weekend.

Although it would be a shock to see Sakho start against Spurs, he could well feature as a substitute in the London derby.

Sakho’s has an important role to play at West Ham now he is back fit, as Bilic’s side have failed to find a potent striker this season.

The additions of Simone Zaza and Jonathan Calleri have not had the desired impact, and West Ham have been forced to use the likes of Michail Antonio out of position up-front, such is their lack viable strikers.
