The Hammers are looking to return to recover from their poor start to the season.

West Ham United manager Slaven Bilic has told his pre-match press conference he is expecting his side to be really good against Southampton.

The Hammers have endured a difficult start to the campaign, picking up just one win in their first five games.

That leaves them in the relegation zone heading into the weekend, with Bilic coming under increasing scrutiny.

This week saw them return to winning ways, though, as they overcame Accrington Stanley in the EFL Cup courtesy of a last-gasp free kick from Dimitri Payet.

It was a much-needed win for the Hammers to help rediscover their confidence and Bilic says he is expecting it to carry through to the game against the Saints.

“We have two massive games coming up and this is a great opportunity for us to get out of the trouble we are in,” he told his pre-match press conference.

“The reaction has been there in training and we always train hard. We have to do that in games and for 90 minutes. I am expecting us to be really good on Sunday.”

It remains to be seen if West Ham can bounce back from their disappointing start to the season against Southampton.

They will need to show significant improvement to do so, especially defensively, having conceded 13 goals already this season.

It will be difficult for them against Claude Puel’s side, who are full of confidence themselves after managing to win their last three games in all competitions.
