Everton completed the signing of Cenk Tosun from Besiktas last week.
Former West Ham United manager Slaven Bilic has told Turkish newspaper Fanatik that he believes Everton’s new signing Cenk Tosun will impress in the Premier League after working with the striker at Besiktas.
Everton confirmed the signing of Turkey international Cenk Tosun for £25million last week, as they finally brought in a striker to replace the loss of Romelu Lukaku who joined Manchester United.
Bilic worked with Tosun for a year at Besiktas, as the 49-year-old manager signed the powerhouse striker from Besiktas’ domestic rivals Gaziantepspor in 2014.
Bilic was full of praise for Everton’s new signing, and backed the centre-forward to shine in the blue of Everton following their time together in the SuperLig – stating his belief in the striker is “endless”.
“Cenk is a classic number 9,” Bilic said. “He is extremely dangerous in the penalty area and in narrow spaces. A striker who knows how to be in the right place at all times and finishes at the top.
I know from Beşiktaş how passionate he works from the heart, because I know him very well. Neither the National Team nor Beşiktaş’s direct first 11 players came to this level. He is a great player who always fights and does not give up fighting.
“I believe that the contribution to Everton will be great. We are talking about a very positive and very determined football player. In Everton, Wayne Rooney will play with influential players like Sigurdsson and he can become an important part of this team.
“Of course, my confidence and my faith in him is endless.”
Everton have had to tend with Oumar Niasse and Dom Calvert-Lewin up front this season, with both scoring intermittently and far less regularly than the likes of Lukaku.
With huge expectation on his shoulders, Tosun could be thrown in at the deep end against Tottenham on Saturday evening as the two sides go head to head in the Premier League at Wembley.
Bilic used to play for Everton, making 32 appearances in all competitions during a two-year period between 1997 and 1999.
