Andre Ayew has made just two appearances for West Ham United so far.

West Ham United manager Slaven Bilic

Slaven Bilic has told West Ham United’s official website that Andre Ayew is very close to making it back into his starting line-up.

Ayew joined West Ham from Swansea City during the summer transfer window, but the forward’s impact at the London Stadium has been limited.

Ayew picked up an injury on debut, which kept him out for over two months.

However, the 26-year-old came on as a substitute during West Ham’s 2-1 win over Chelsea in the EFL Cup on Wednesday evening.

And Bilic now suggests that Ayew is close to returning on full health.

“He is very close [to starting],” he said. “It was crucial [for him to get some game-time], because he had a long break from the first game of the season, and it’s great to have him back. He’s been training with the group for a couple of weeks now and came on and did really good against Chelsea. He looked fit and aggressive, so it’s great to have him back.”

Ayew scored 10 goals for Swansea in the Premier League last season, and he is expected to increase the potency of West Ham’s attack.

Ayew is returning at a point when the Hammers are in good form, after winning their last three matches in succession.

West Ham’s next match comes on Sunday against Everton, where Ayew is once again likely to feature in Bilic’s match day squad.
