The West Ham United striker hasn’t hit top form yet this season.
Slaven Bilic has told a press conference on West Ham United’s official website that Andy Carroll is going from strength to strength in training.
The 28-year-old missed the early weeks of the new Premier League season but Carroll has played West Ham’s last four games.
However, the England striker has not yet opened his account for the Irons this season in a fact which has led to fans calling for Bilic to start playing Diafra Sakho or Javier Hernandez ahead of him on a regular basis up front.
Given the fact he was injured for the early parts of the campaign, however, the Croatian manager is expecting the towering marksman to gradually improve as he picks up more minutes.
“He has been good, he always has an impact on the game if its from the start or the bench and that’s what he has been doing,” Bilic said in a press conference streamed on the club’s official website.
“Of course, we are expecting him to be more fitter and with that, more minutes and then more match fitness and to get better.
“He is looking better in training now than he did two or three weeks ago which is only natural but yeah, he is good.”
It remains to be seen whether Bilic continues to pick Carroll in this weekend’s trip to in-form Burnley.
Hernandez returned late from international duty so he might be a non-starter, but few can argue that Sakho deserves a chance ahead of Carroll if it’s one up top.
The Senegal international, who has been offered a new deal this week, has three goals in two starts for the Irons in all competitions this season – including a last-minute winner in the 1-0 victory over Swansea last time out.
