West Ham United ran out 1-0 winners over Sunderland at the weekend.
Slaven Bilic has admitted to Sky Sports that West Ham United’s winner against Sunderland was not something that they’ve worked on in training.
West Ham grabbed a last minute goal against Sunderland when they worked a short corner into Winston Reid, who swivelled on the edge of the box and lashed the ball into the bottom corner.
It was a fine finish from the centre-back, but Bilic admits that he had not planned for that to happen.
“It was a bit of an unusual way to score a goal, not a training ground combination,” said Bilic. “But they made a bit of a mistake because they were all in the box and expected a cross and it was a good decision from Dimi and Mark Noble to pass it and come in to a good area without them pressing up.
“It was a great strike, unusual but very important for us.”
Reid’s goal was majorly important for West Ham, as it helps Bilic’s side to build some momentum after a woeful start.
The Hammers began the campaign in awful form, but they have won their last two matches to start climbing up the Premier League table.
West Ham are now in 15th place in the top flight table, but they have closed the gap on many of the teams above them and confidence is starting to grow at the London Stadium.
Bilic’s men are next in action on Tuesday evening when they host Antonio Conte’s Chelsea side in the EFL Cup.
