The striker is yet to score for West Ham since joining in the summer.

West Ham United manager Slaven Bilic has insisted to the London Evening Standard that the goals will come for striker Simone Zaza.

The forward joined the Hammers in the summer transfer window in a loan move from Serie A giants Juventus.

It has been a hard time for him at the London Stadium, though, as he has gone without a goal in his first eight games at the club.

Indeed, there have already been numerous reports that the Italian’s loan spell could be cut short in the January transfer window.

Last week saw him put in his best performance to date when he played role in the Hammers 1-0 over Crystal Palace.

He didn’t score in that game but Bilic has backed him to find the back of the net sooner rather than later.

“The goals will come for Simone but his link play with Dimitri Payet and Manuel Lanzini was different class,” he told the London Evening Standard.

“Simone has come from football in Italy, which is different to here, and it takes time to acclimatise. The pressure has increased because everyone is expecting him to decide games.”

It remains to be seen if Zaza can rediscover his goalscoring touch sooner rather than later.

His performance against Crystal Palace was much improved, with his all-action display very much the key to his side’s eventual victory.

He was not much of an attacking threat, though, indeed he hasn’t been all season as he is registering just 0.2 shots on target per game.

Strikers are judged on goals and in that regard Zaza has proven to be a poor piece of business for the Hammers this summer.
