West Ham scored a late winner to beat Sunderland 1-0 at the London Stadium.
West Ham United manager Slaven Bilic has admitted to BBC Sport that Sunderland should be upset about his side’s winner.
The Hammers hosted David Moyes’ team at the London Stadium on Saturday afternoon looking to build on last weekend’s win over Crystal Palace.
They managed to do just that as a last-gasp goal from central defender Winston Reid saw them claim all three points.
There was some controversy surrounding the strike, with many believing that there may have been an offside for the home team.
Bilic insists that was not the case, although he concedes the Black Cats have every right to be upset about it.
“You expect Winston Reid to score a header but it was a great decision to come in on the edge of the box,” he told BBC Sport.
“I had a look at the goal, it is extremely difficult for the referee and I would be upset if I played for Sunderland, but it is not offside.”
The win was a much-needed one for the Hammers after their disastrous start to the season overall. It moved them on to 10 points from their first nine games and crucially took them three points clear of the current bottom three.
Even more importantly it was their second successive clean sheet, which is vitally important for a team that has already conceded 17 goals in this campaign.
And Bilic has urged them to use the result as something to build on moving forward.
“It is a boost. It was still early days but we had to react,” he added.
“Now we have two wins, two clean sheets, nothing can give you a bigger boost than wins. We have to build on this.”
