Andy Carroll and Diafra Sakho were both left on the bench during West Ham United’s match against Swansea City last weekend.
Slaven Bilic has admitted to Football.London that he was concerned about the fitness of West Ham United’s Andy Carroll and Diafra Sakho last weekend.
West Ham fans were left bemused when Bilic turned to Jonathan Calleri to come on, ahead of both Carroll and Sakho, against Swansea City.
Calleri was introduced in the 40th minute of the contest, after Michail Antonio picked up an injury.
And Bilic said that the reason he left both Carroll and Sakho on the substitutes’ bench, is that he didn’t want to risk rushing them back from injury too quickly.

“I was concerned about Carroll and Sakho’s fitness last weekend,” Bilic said.
“With Andy it was the situation we would need him for a maximum 15 minutes, today it is different.”
In the end, Bilic’s decision did not backfire – as West Ham picked up a crucial 1-0 victory over Swansea.
The three points helped the Hammers climb up the Premier League table and away from the relegation zone.
Carroll and Sakho will both be hoping to feature in West Ham’s match this weekend, though.
Bilic’s men are set to take on struggling Sunderland on Saturday at the Stadium of Light in their next outing.
