Leeds United sporting director Victor Orta is back under pressure.
This time last year there was anger being directed at Leeds United technical director Victor Orta.
His numerous summer signings failed to pan out, with several of them no longer at the club.
Replacing Chris Wood with Jay Roy-Grot always seemed like a bad idea, and so it proved, as a poor squad cost manager Thomas Christiansen his job.
This summer Orta redeemed himself, firstly by helping to convince Marcelo Bielsa to be the team’s manager.
He is still in credit for that huge coup, but the jury is still out on him in the transfer market.
Another of his signings left the club yesterday, with ineffective loanee Lewis Baker recalled by Chelsea.
The pressure is back on Orta, with no signings made in the first nine days of the transfer window, and glaring squad deficiencies.
Baker’s departure leaves Leeds light in central midfield, as well as defence, in goal, on the wing, and a replacement for Samu Saiz is needed.
Even if Leeds fill only half of those needs, they will be in a far stronger position than they currently are, and the pressure is on Orta to produce the goods.
In recent months he has barely been mentioned with the club doing well on the pitch, now annoyance is creeping back, and will grow as long as Leeds stay quiet in the market.
