The new signing is looking forward to the challenge of giving the Boleyn ground a fitting send-off.

New West Ham signing Dimitri Payet has told the club’s official website that the club presented him with the best challenge.

The winger completed a move to the Hammers earlier this week from Ligue 1 side Marseille, signing a five-year deal with Slaven Bilic’s side becoming club’s third signing of the summer after they captured both Darren Randolph and Pedro Obiang.

Payet has been linked with a number of English clubs in the past, but says that West Ham presented him with the best challenge; while he also says he may look to former Lille teammate and West Ham alumni Joe Cole for advice about the move.

“I feel ready to embrace a new challenge and West Ham for me was the best challenge,” he told whufc.com.

“I’ve not had the opportunity to speak to him [Joe Cole] about West Ham yet, but we got to know one another over the course of the year and I got a much better idea of English culture!”

A tough challenge next season

The Hammers are embarking on their first taste of European football since 2006 in the Europa League next season, a campaign that is set to start in July.

They also face a testing time as they are set to leave Upton Park at the end of next season for a move to the Olympic Stadium, with fans expecting them to give the old ground a fitting send-off but also ensure Premier League football ahead of the move.

All of that poses an exciting challenge for the players and if a challenge is truly what the Frenchman is craving, then he is unlikely to find a bigger one than at West Ham next season.
