The Villans are yet to appoint a replacement for Remi Garde.
Tim Sherwood has told BBC Match of the Day 2 that he is surprised by Aston Villa’s failure to secure a new manager.
The Villans sacked Remi Garde last month after he failed to turn things around at the club following Sherwood’s sacking earlier in the campaign.
The hunt for a new manager is seemingly still to get underway, with the club yet to comment on the search beyond admitting that their new look board will take charge of the process.
And Sherwood has admitted that their slowness has surprised him, as an instant appointment would be a good opportunity for someone to do due diligence ahead of next season.
“It’s vitally important that they start looking at getting things right on the pitch,” he told Match of the Day 2.
“Recruitment is going to be key for them next season, and obviously to recruit a manager, which is most important at the moment.
“I’m surprised they haven’t done that up to now. Perhaps the man they want is already in a job, otherwise it would be a good opportunity for somebody to come in and do their due diligence.”
The point about due diligence is certainly an interesting one from Sherwood, and surely something that Villa should take seriously.
Appointing a new manager now would allow them extra time ahead of the competition next season, and potentially help ensure a strong start to life in the Championship.
That could be key to a positive season next year, and perhaps the Villans should take this particular piece of advice from their former manager on board.
