The Manchester United manager was not happy with questions about the progress of his team
Manchester United boss Louis Van Gaal has reacted angrily to questions about his side’s progress this season.
Van Gaal’s side have the exact same amount of points as they did at this stage last season under David Moyes, a campaign that was ultimately deemed a failure and cost the Scot his job.
And, when asked about why fans should feel there has been progress made compared to Moyes’ short tenure, the United manager was not impressed.
“So, you have waited until the moment you can ask this question? At the moment I have less, or the same, points as David Moyes?” said Van Gaal.
“Does that mean I haven’t made the team better?”
Van Gaal has often been critical of his team this season, regardless of the result, but accepted that the visitors put in a good performance at Old Trafford.
“What we did wrong is that we didn’t make the right decisions in the final phases of our attacking moves, but have always to take into account that Southampton played well, and they defended well and were well organized,” he said.
However, he did feel that the Saints were perhaps lucky to leave with all three points, suggesting they were looking for a draw against his side.
“I think they came here for a draw and they’ve got away with a victory,” he added.
“It’s a little lucky for them and a little bit unlucky for us, but it’s exactly what happened for us at Southampton five weeks ago.”
