The Gunners striker scored the opening goal in the 2-0 win over Aston Villa.
It’s been a good week for Arsenal, and in particular striker Olivier Giroud.
With Theo Walcott out injured in recent weeks, the pressure has been firmly on the Frenchman to lead the Gunners front line and keep both their title and Champions League hopes alive.
He did just that in midweek as he scored a hattrick to help his side to a win over Olympiacos, with those goals taking him past legend Dennis Bergkamp’s tally for goals in Europe for the club.
He carried his goalscoring form into the win over Aston Villa as well, with his penalty the opening goal in a 2-0 victory.
That strike took him to 50 Premier League goals for Arsenal, the seventh player to do so in the league’s history.
He now sits proudly alongside Thierry Henry, Ian Wright, Robin Van Persie, Bergkamp and Robert Pires with that record.
An impressive tally for Giroud, who can also add the fact that he has scored them in less games than Bergkamp and Van Persie to his CV.
Although Henry and Wright did it considerably quicker, with those two managing it in 83 and 87 games respectively.
Another game, another Bergkamp record broken for Olivier Giroud then, whom Arsenal will be hoping can continue to score the goals they need this season.
