The Canaries moved six points clear of Rafa Benitez’s side with their 3-2 win on Saturday.
Norwich City’s six-point gap over Newcastle United is ‘nothing’, Aleksandar Mitrovic has insisted to BBC Radio Newcastle, as reported by the Shields Gazette.
The Canaries took a big step towards survival this season as they beat Newcastle in a crunch clash at the weekend.
They were 3-2 winners in the game as a late goal from Marcus Olsson condemned Mitrovic’s side to another demoralising defeat.
The result left Rafa Benitez’s side six points from safety with just seven games remaining, with many predicting they are now doomed for relegation.
Mitrovic though, insists that isn’t the case, saying Norwich’s gap is nothing as they have tough games coming up.
“We have seven big games. They have six points more,” the Shields Gazette reports him saying.
“But at the moment it’s nothing, because they have some difficult games and they will lose points. We have think about ourselves and win some games.”
“I think we need to win one game or two games in a row and confidence will be better. The best way now is to move on. We have seven more games. Nothing is finished now.”
If Newcastle are to avoid the drop then Mitrovic looks like being a key player in helping them do so.
He has endured a difficult first campaign in England, but recent weeks have seen him step up for the side.
His two goals against Norwich came after his strike against Sunderland, which secured them a vital point in their fight against relegation.
He must surely now be a first pick in Benitez’s plans, especially given how they have struggled for goals this season.
