The Reds are expected to be busy in the summer transfer window.
Liverpool’s use of young players this season shows they are in need of reinforcements this summer, Steve McManaman has told the Independent.
The Reds have blooded a number of youngsters this season, with the likes of Sheyi Ojo, Kevin Stewart, Brad Smith and several others all being given the chance to impress.
That has naturally been warmly welcomed by the clubs fans, who are always keen to see their team handing chances to young players.
For McManaman though it is also a major negative as it points out how much beefing up the current squad needs, as you don’t see it happening at the likes of Manchester City, Arsenal or Chelsea.
“I’ve worked with a lot of the youngsters and I like them a lot,” he told the Independent.
“I’m thrilled that so many of them have made their debuts. It’s a huge thing to pull on a Liverpool shirt.”
“But the fact that I can name eight who have played, while brilliant for the academy, shows that the first-team squad needs beefing. That wouldn’t happen at the likes of Man City, Arsenal or Chelsea.”
A number of incomings and outgoings are expected at the club this summer, as Jurgen Klopp looks to mould the squad to more suit his desired style.
Indeed, Klopp’s first transfer window at Borussia Dortmund was a busy one as he did just that, and it would not be a surprise to see him do a similar thing at Anfield.
What work he can do is sure to be key to how successful they can be next season, especially in regards to improving problematic areas such as the defence.
