The Gers captain scored Rangers’ first goal in the 3-0 win at Ibrox.
Speaking to the club’s official website, Rangers captain Lee Wallace has expressed his delight at scoring against Kilmarnock.
The Gers returned to winning ways on Saturday afternoon as they secured a 3-0 win over Killie at Ibrox.
Their captain set them on their way to all three points as he got on to the end of a Josh Windass pass to finish past Jamie MacDonald at the near post inside the first 15 minutes.
That strike was his first since March and he has expressed his delight at opening his account for the campaign to the club’s official website.
“It’s always a bonus when I score,” he told the club’s official website.
“We know that last season I managed to get nine goals and that of course was quite rare, quite unique, and it was a real bonus for me.”
The win was a much-needed one for Mark Warburton’s team after a week that saw them knocked out of the Scottish League Cup by Celtic and draw with St Johnstone.
It moved them up the table and into second place, although they remain nine points behind Brendan Rodgers’ team.
The performance was closer to the kind of displays that Rangers showed in the Scottish Championship last season and Wallace says they must use it as a benchmark moving forward.
“It was a really enjoyable afternoon and we are now into second place,” he added.
“So while we don’t want to get carried away, we know that today was the benchmark for the level of performance that we want to try to aspire to every week.”
