The German says he won’t be replacing Simon Mignolet any time soon however.
Jurgen Klopp is keeping a constant eye on goalkeeper Danny Ward, he has told the club’s official website.
The 22-year-old spent the first half of this campaign on loan at Aberdeen, where he kept 13 clean sheets in all competitions and became a firm fan favourite.
That led the Reds to recalling him in January to provide competition for number one Simon Mignolet.
He is yet to be handed his chance in the first team, with Mignolet having managed to keep his place despite another rocky campaign.
Klopp though, admits he is constantly watching Ward and talking with goalkeeper coach John Achterberg about his progress.
“We always have a look at him, in each training session. I’m always in talks with [goalkeeping coach] John Achterberg,” he told liverpoolfc.com.
There was no doubt in this moment [about] who is the better goalkeeper – Simon Mignolet. We had a few situations with different tournaments where we could’ve thought if we can change in this moment.
“The most important thing is that he improves in all of his things. He’s still a young player so there’s a long way to go for him but he’s in a good way.”
The goalkeeping situation is certainly an interesting one at Liverpool, with many expecting it to change in the summer.
Mignolet looks likely to be replaced at some point despite his manager’s backing, with many believing he isn’t good enough if Liverpool harbor ambitions of returning to the highest level.
They have already been strongly linked with a move for Barcelona ‘keeper Marc Andre Ter Stegen, and that speculation is only likely to grow as Klopp works in the transfer window this summer.
