Former Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen has told Sky Sports that the Gunners had great season.
Arsenal had looked to be serious challengers for the title this past season, as they started the campaign strongly.
Indeed, they topped the table at the beginning of 2016 as it appeared they could be ending their title drought.
However a poor second half of the season saw them fall away in the title race as Leicester City and Tottenham Hotspur battled it out, with the Foxes eventually winning it.

That was a huge disappointment for them, as many felt they should have won the league given their rivals all struggled.
They eventually finished second, their highest finish for some time, and Vermaelen believes it was actually a great year for them.
“The last couple of weeks and months were a bit disappointing for them but before that they had a great season,” he told Sky Sports.
“I thought they had a big chance to win it this year and hopefully next year they can go on and win it.”
Switzerland’s Granit Xhaka after the match
Despite what Vermaelen may believe about Arsenal’s season, there is no denying that they will regard their campaign as a poor one.
Indeed, it seems they are keen to right the wrongs of the year, with Arsene Wenger already having secured a big money move for Granit Xhaka.
And it will now be interesting to see if the Frenchman looks to spend elsewhere to ensure his side are contenders next season.
