The West Brom manager has laughed off the striker’s recent comments to the media.
West Brom manager Tony Pulis has joked that striker Saido Berahino has been put in the naughty chair, according to BT Sport.
The striker recently said in an interview that he would look to go on to bigger things once he had helped the Baggies stay in the Premier League, implying he would be leaving the Hawthorns at the end of the season.
However, his manager Pulis has laughed off the comments and instead challenged the forward, who has 14 goals to his name this term, to do his talking on the pitch against Burnley on Sunday.
“He’s been in the naughty chair – but he’s okay. It’s not too far from my desk,” said Pulis.
“I’ve spoken to him and I’ve spoken to his people. The most important thing Saido has got to do is don’t talk about what he wants to do – but actually go out there and do it. That’s what all the good players do. They actually go out and perform on the pitch.”
Despite his comments, one man who has been impressed with Berahino is new signing Darren Fletcher.
The midfielder joined the Baggies from Manchester United on Deadline Day of the January transfer window and has admitted that the youngster has taken some stick about the interview, although he suggests it won’t affect him in the slightest.
Instead, he believes that such mistakes are all part and parcel of being young and the forward will learn from it and know not to do it in future, something that will inevitably help him in his career at West Brom.
“The lads got straight into him a little bit but it was all in good fun,” added Fletcher.
“I know from being in the dressing room he loves West Brom and he wants to do well here. The biggest thing is, as long as he learns from it, it will help him in the future.”
