Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil has improved in six key areas from last season

The German has been a star for Arsene Wenger’s side this season, and the stats show how much he has improved.

If Arsenal are to have any chance of winning the Premier League title this season Mesut Ozil’s form will be key.

The German international has been in impressive form so far this season, with him currently leading the Premier League for assists by some distance.

That form has garnered a lot of praise with many now claiming he is showing why the Gunners paid such a big price to Real Madrid for him back in 2013.

With this looking likely to be one of his best seasons since joining the club, we decided to compare his stats from last season to see just how much he has improved.

As shown by the table provided by Opta, Ozil has done just that with notable improvement in six key areas on last season.

Tasked with being Arsenal’s main creative force, Ozil has fully taken up that mantle so far, with him registering 0.8 assists per game compared to 0.2 in the last campaign.

Similarly, he is even attempting more assists per game with a tally of 4.3 this season compared to 3.1 last season, while his on-target attempted assists have risen from 2 to 2.8.

That has led to him creating one big chance per game so far; last season it was a lowly 0.3.

Ozil’s improvement has already seen him nearly treble his assists tally, with 13 in 15 games so far compared to just five in 22 last season.

In possession his stats have also improved, with him registering more passes per game and more accurate passes per game to add to his improvement so far.

With a potential title challenge on the horizon, Arsenal will be hoping Ozil can maintain this kind of form for the rest of the campaign.
