Yaya Toure played a key part in Manchester City’s 5-0 win over Newcastle United.
Manchester City moved within five points of Chelsea with an imperious 5-0 victory over Newcastle United on Saturday.
The game featured the return of City stalwart Yaya Toure following his absence at the African Cup of Nations.
The champions had struggled without their midfield general during his absence, missing his drive from the centre of the park and his goals to boot.
We decided to take a look at the stats behind Toure’s impressive performance on his return, which saw his side blow the Premier League title race open once again.
| Position | Team | Goals | Total Att Assist | Successful Final Third Passes | Accurate Pass | Fwd Pass | Big Chance Created | Appearances | Mins Played | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Yaya Touré | MF | Man City | 0 | 1 | 24 | 109 | 38 | 1 | 1 | 90 |
Unfortunately for the Ivorian, he failed to get on the score sheet at the Etihad but was impressive elsewhere regardless, even bagging himself an assist.
In other areas his passing was superb as he managed a humungous 109 accurate passes throughout the game, with 38 of them being forward passes to get his side on the attack.
Speaking of being on the attack, he also managed 24 successful final third passes amongst his tally of passes, again highlighting the danger he is to opponents trying to keep a clean sheet.
So, yet again an impressive performance for Yaya Toure, with his side’s 5-0 win once more, showing his importance to Manuel Pellegrini’s side as they look to retain their Premier League title.
